How to Remove a Password From a PDF You Own (Free)
By DocFila Team · April 29, 2026 · 4 min read
If a bank statement or signed contract you own is password-protected and you'd like to store it un-encrypted in your archive, DocFila can remove the password — provided you know it. (We do not help bypass passwords on files you don't own; that's illegal in most jurisdictions.)
Remove the password
- Open the encrypted PDF in DocFila and enter the password when prompted.
- Tap PDF Tools → Security → Remove Password.
- Confirm. DocFila saves an un-encrypted copy alongside the original.
Why the original password matters
DocFila must decrypt the file the same way any reader would: with the correct password. There is no "crack" mode. If you've lost the password, contact the original sender — banks, payroll providers, and law firms can re-issue.
Reset to a new password
Same dialog: Set Password lets you encrypt with a new passphrase. Useful for rotating expired passwords or sharing with someone who needs a different one.
Permission passwords vs open passwords
Some PDFs are openable but block printing/copying. DocFila respects these unless you own the file (creator field matches your account). Use Settings → Permissions to set or remove print/copy/edit restrictions on PDFs you create.
