How to Add a Watermark to a PDF (Free, in Seconds)
By DocFila Team · April 23, 2026 · 4 min read
Watermarks signal the status of a document at a glance — Confidential, Draft, Internal, Approved — and discourage unauthorised redistribution. DocFila adds text or image watermarks to any PDF in seconds, free, with no signup.
Text vs image watermarks
Text watermarks ("Confidential", "Draft", a date) are lightweight and edit-friendly. Image watermarks (your logo, a seal, a signed-and-stamped graphic) carry more visual weight and are harder to forge. DocFila supports both, and you can stack them.
Add a watermark in DocFila
- Open the PDF and tap PDF Tools → Watermark.
- Pick Text or Image.
- For text: type the word(s), choose font, size, colour, opacity (40% is the sweet spot), rotation (45° diagonal is classic).
- For image: pick your logo PNG. Resize and position with two fingers.
- Choose pages: All, First, Last, or a custom range.
- Tap Apply and save the watermarked PDF.
Three watermarks worth saving as presets
- Confidential — red, 50% opacity, 45° rotation, all pages.
- Draft — grey, 40% opacity, 0° (centred horizontally), all pages.
- Logo — your company logo at 25% opacity in the bottom-right corner of every page.
Remove an existing watermark
If you need to remove a watermark from a PDF you legally own (e.g. an old draft you want to repurpose), open the file, tap PDF Tools → Edit → Remove Watermark. DocFila detects common watermark layers and offers one-tap removal. For non-removable watermarks burned into images, the OCR + redact workflow is your best bet.
