How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF (Free, in Seconds)
By DocFila Team · April 29, 2026 · 3 min read
Long PDFs without page numbers are unreadable in court, in print, or in any meeting that lasts more than 5 minutes. Add them in seconds with DocFila — free, customisable, and saved permanently into the file.
Add page numbers in DocFila
- Open the PDF → Tools → Page Numbers.
- Pick position: top-left, top-centre, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-centre, bottom-right.
- Pick format: 1, 2, 3; Page 1 of 50; i, ii, iii; or custom.
- Choose font, size, colour, margin offset.
- Restrict to a page range if you want to skip the cover/TOC.
- Tap Apply.
Pro tips
- Use Page X of Y for legal contracts and reports — it's the standard.
- Skip the cover page and table of contents (start numbering at page 3).
- Match the font of the document body for a seamless look.
Add a header or footer too
The same dialog can add a header (document title, date) or footer (your company, version). One pass through the file applies all three: header, footer, page numbers.
